My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

When I worked as a DJ at the Rotterdam based radio station "Stadsradio Rotterdam" having my own radio show called "Turbulence" in 1995. I programmed early trance tunes on the show, and as a producer back then I released a bunch of records combining trance melodies with club beats, which laid the foundation for the (at that time) mighty popular "clubtrance" style. The best example have to be our highly successful release "Department 1 – Together".

Who has been your biggest influence?

As I'm from the "old school days" and was influenced by the eighties in particular, I'd have to say Jean Michel Jarre, Ben Liebrand and Peter Slaghuis (Hithouse).

What moment would you live again if you could?

I guess the moment we heard that "Greece 2000" hit number 12 in the UK Singles Charts, and the madhouse and media circus that followed soon after that! We heard the news of our UK entry when we were having dinner with our record company in a restaurant in Cannes, when we were there for the Midem conference. We got very drunk that night, haha!

Where in the world is trance-central?

Considering the fact that our little country is the world's biggest supplier of trance talent and we regularly provide the number 1 DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100: The Netherlands!
