My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

During that time I was working in a record shop in Holland. I noticed that the harder types of music were slowly changing. Also music styles like hip house and swing-beat were slowly disappearing from the scene and these more melodic records became very popular. In those days we just called it house music. No bullshit names for every single type of sound. During the year 1996 when I really was getting into producing records I discovered that I very much liked the so called "trance" sound. It triggered a sort of emotion and a feeling with me that I still try to produce or find in records today.

Who has been your biggest influence?

As a producer I never really had an "influence", I always tried to do my own thing. Of course during my whole career I met people which I have a great deal of respect for, but if I have to name one person who influenced me from the beginning I must say Liam Howlett from the Prodigy. We make completely different styles of music but the way this man is pioneering in the dance industry for almost 20 years now is for me still unbelievable.

What moment would you live again if you could?

The day that I quit my job 10 years ago and started producing/DJing fulltime. That moment felt so liberating.

Where in the world is trance-central?

Every gig I play in any country. These two hours of euphoric madness, feeling the energy from the crowd, giving it all you got. For me... THAT is trance-central.
