My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

I was running Oldskool hardcore events at a club near Coventry back in 1999 and used to go to the venues in house Friday night events. The scene was just spliting resulting in the Trance and Hard House scenes. I wasn't at all a fan of the trance sound at the time but recall one night where Madagascar was dropped. The lighting guy decided to absolutely fill the club with smoke and hit the strobes. Stood on the middle of the dancefloor the riff came in and I felt a bit unstable!

Who has been your biggest influence?

Over the years i've taken influence from all corners of the dance scene, thats the beauty of it, always something evolving to inspire you. The rise of Tech Trance has really grabbed me of late and of course I'm a massive fan of Sander Van Doorn's work. For me he's the most exciting aspect of dance music right now.

What moment would you live again if you could?

There are a couple actually. I remember me and my friends were at Passion one night to see John Kelly. From nowhere this vocal seemed to rush in above us like a jet plane 'And that's what takes me high'. It was a defining moment... obviously it turned out to be a mix of Soniques 'It Feels So Good' which was hugely successful. A few tracks later he played Conductor & A Cowboy - Feeling This way, two tracks that will stay with me forever. For the millenium me and 12 friends travelled up to Gatecrashers Don Valley Stadium event, I have photos of the big video screens with the numbers '10' and '1' during the countdown to the new year. The party received a bit of stick but to coin a phrase 'itwillalwaysbewithme'.

Where in the world is trance-central?

Trackitdown.net of course!
