My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

Back in 1999, i heard talk about this hypnotic sound which was sweeping across the clubs known as 'Trance'. after borrowing my friends copy of the Gatecrasher Red Album and hearing tunes such as Gouryella - Gouryella i fell in love with the trance sound. This led me to buying the 'Clubbers Guide To Trance' compilation which I listened to on a daily basis, before I knew it I was hooked. after falling in love with this new sound me and a few friends went out in search for a club which played trance, the most local to us being Passion @ The Emporium in Coalville. From the very first moment I walked in I was astounded, the atmosphere, the music and the lights were simply amazing, this night was truly a turning point in my life and was the catalyst which made me want to learn the art of the DJ.

Who has been your biggest influence?

There have been so many influences which have shaped the sound I play today, to name just one would be impossible, but Paul Van Dyk's sound has impressed me over the years and i am a big fan of Sean Tyas' and Tom Colontonio's work recently. Passion has always been a big influence, as my second home, I loved the diversity of music and the progression of music throughout the night. I try to incorporate this diversity and progression in my sets of today, learning from my many memorable experiences.

What moment would you live again if you could?

I have had far too many to include, but I think my first visit to Ibiza back in 2000 really had to be one of the best times I had, I learned so much about dance music and the scene while I was there, met so many amazing people, and went to so many amazing parties, Cream @ Amnesia being the one which really stands out in my mind.

Where in the world is trance-central?

I don't see 'Trance Central' as being a single place its more of a state of mind as it lives in the hearts and minds of all the clubbers, DJ's and Producers who make the scene so special, but I guess in the middle of an epic breakdown at the peak of the night surrounded by a crowd of people making awesome noise with their arms in the air sure feels like 'Trance Central' in that moment!!!
