My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

We discovered trance in a period when it wasn't even labelled as "trance", I think it was around 1993. We had a residency in a Dutch club where we played early Oliver Lieb tracks under his L.S.G. guise and tracks like "Schoneberg" by Marmion and Humate's "Love Stimulation". Nobody called it trance at that time but it certainly got the floor in a huge state of trance! I experienced my very own personal state of trance when I was driving in my car on my way to an appointment and I played "Acid Eiffel" by Choice (an alter ego of Laurent Garnier) in the car. It's a 13.34 minute audio trip and listening to it, I missed about 5 exits. When the track was finished, I sort of woke up and found myself completely lost on the highway!

Who has been your biggest influence?

Not necessarily influences, but people for whom we have a great deal of respect are "early heroes" like Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Larry Heard and Carl Craig, and "current heroes" Mauro Picotto, Marco V and Ferry Corsten. Music-wise, they contributed so much to the scene as we know it today, proving and innovating themselves time and time again.

What moment would you live again if you could?

A hard question, as we have multiple moments we surely would want to experience again... The moment when our record "Blow ya mind" entered the Top 10 of the UK Singles Charts and later on, the moment when our record company handed over the UK silver record stating we sold over 200.000 copies of the single in the UK alone... The first time we were standing in line on the airport with our record cases, about to board a plane to go and play our tunes abroad; we couldn't believe people actually bought us plane tickets to play on another continent… The moment we saw our act performing on Top Of The Pops UK… The moment when we found ourselves in a jury with porn legend Ron Jeremy to elect "Miss Lingerie" on a party in Los Angeles where we played... all moments we would very much like to relive!

Where in the world is trance-central?

In our opinion, trance-central hasn't got anything to do with the music style... Trance-central is there when you're in a booth in front of a packed room, anywhere on the globe, at that certain moment when you play a certain record creating that magical goose-bump moment, and when everything just all falls into place lifting us and the audience up to a whole different level…. That's trance-central to us.
