My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

My first experience with early trance was listening to a live Jam & Spoon pa at the legendary Venus in Nottingham, this was around 90/91 when as a wide eyed clubber/up and coming DJ I listened spell bound to the tune 'Stella'. Venus was and still remains my favourite clubbing experience and the place I discovered trance. My modern trance experience has to be discovering 'Out of the blue' by System F. This was a totally new experience in arrangement, percussion and power of elation, this track to me defines what trance is today, when I played it at Passion the place just erupted every time with many memorable hands in the air moments.

Who has been your biggest influence?

The person I looked up to as someone to emulate back in the mid 90's was Tall Paul, his style of DJing and his sound was so unique that he made it (and still does make it ) look so effortless, but saying that my mate Jack Daniels and his friend Jim beam have also had a bit of an influence.

What moment would you live again if you could?

My whole DJ life has been pretty memorable but the day I got my new residency at an unknown club called Passion was pretty special, I didn't know then how important that moment was going to be, also when I did a three way back to back of the cuff with Armin and Ferry.... couldn't see that happening now could you...lol

Where in the world is trance-central?

Passion of course! When its rammed to the rafters and they are chanting 'One more!' at the end.
