My Trance Story

Darude

Where did you discover trance?

I discovered something I now look back as trance in a warehouse party in Rauma, Finland, when I heard Age Of Love – Age Of Love inearly nineties. I still remember how it felt, how the place looked like, the atmosphere. It was special, very special.

Who has been your biggest influence?

In my productions definitely my friend and my fellow producer Jaakko “JS16” Salovaara. He’s the one who “found” me, he’s the one who helped me to shape my sound and my style, I’ve learned a lot from him. On the other hand I had been listening to dance music years and years I got to work with him so there are many names that have also affected my taste and style in music: KLF, Faithless, Black Box, Guru Josh, Paul Van Dyk, Bad Boys Blue, WASP, Bon Jovi, Bad Religion, Green Day, Energy52, Madonna, Pet Shop Boys + 1000 others... And I know some of those names couldn’t be further from trance but they’ve still influenced me, and the music I make is not “pure” trance after all ;)

What moment would you live again if you could?

There are several... But to choose one, I guess I could get even more out of my performance at the MTV Ibiza 2000 party if I did it again now. I think I’d look at some things differently today with more experience behind me. It was mind blowing to be one of the guys among the big names for the first time, get to perform for 15000 people.

Where in the world is trance-central?

What kind of question is that? In Finland of course, and the whole internet knows it!
