My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

I guess I started to hear trance creep onto the radio in the late nineties... I used to listen to Dave Pearce and Jules on Radio 1 here in the UK. I used to go out clubbing at places like Cream in Liverpool and I fell in love with the combination of uplifting melodies with a solid 4 on the floor drum track which united everyone on the dancefloor. I used to buy the Trance Nation and Euphoria compilations, then later on I was lucky enough to have my trance productions included on both of these classic compilation brands.

Who has been your biggest influence?

I think having a true understanding of clubbing culture is important and very influential when making records that clubbers can relate to and really get into. Some of my favourite producers from back in the early days of trance were Lange, Ferry Corsten, Darren Tate. My productions and my way of thinking is influenced by many different types of music. I am very open minded when it comes to music which is why I'm involved with producing such a wide range of styles!

What moment would you live again if you could?

The first time I heard one of my trance tracks on Radio 1 was a very special moment! I had just remembered that I had sent in a track to Dave Pearce on Radio 1, so I flicked on the Radio, and my tune was playing! I was living with friends so we all listened to it which made it even more special. A few days before, Steve Lamacq and John Peel had played one of my Drum 'n' Bass tracks on Radio 1, so that was a good week! The most amount of radio plays that one of my records has had was my Redd Square remix of Ferry Corsten's "Whatever!" which was supported by Judge Jules and Dave Pearce for more than 12 consecutive weeks on Radio 1. The first time I dropped one of my tracks to a big room full of clubbers was also a very nice moment. It's very satisfying to see people enjoy themselves to your music.

Where in the world is trance-central?

I love the UK dance music scene. I love the mix of different styles and I do feel that the UK its a strong contender in the trance scene. Thanks to globalisation and the internet bringing everybody closer, there are trance fans all around the world... so there is no trance-central!
