My Trance Story

Where did you discover trance?

I discovered the sounds of trance when I was 13 and got a cd rom filled with live dj sets from Ferry Corsten and Tiesto which made me a big fan of the genre within a week! After a while I started downloading live sets myself and became a big fan of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten in particular.

When I was 15 I bought my own turntables and started spinning, the road to the record store became a familiar one which I passed every single week! The famous 'Nieuwe Binnenweg' in my hometown Rotterdam, the street that has all the record stores. When I was 18 I started producing, after playing on several small parties.

I can remember two tunes that started it all for me, Rank 1 - Airwave and System F - Out Of The Blue. Instant classics in a cup!

Who has been your biggest influence?

My first release was called 'Explodera' and had a remarkable resemblance to an old Ferry Corsten tune, at least, that's what someone told me later haha! I've always been a huge fan of Ferry Corsten in fact so he's a big influence actually. Besides that I just don't really get my influences from other producers, I do listen very carefully to their productions and try to learn from that!

Actually, I get my influence from big events. I love to make music that fills the floor and really makes the crowd go mad. When I'm producing I just instantly think of what it would sound like when played at a club or big indoor event like Trance Energy or something.

What moment would you live again if you could?

I don't really look back, more of a future kind of guy! But if I was forced to choose it would be finding out that Paul van Dyk hammered my debut release for several weeks!

Where in the world is trance-central?

Mmmm... hard to say! If you look at big events, the numberous amount of producers and dj's and the Top 10 of the DJ Mag, I would have to say Holland!
